My Favorite Books from 2020

This seems pretty obvious, but I’ll say it anyway… I love to read. Unfortunately, I read less in 2020 than I have in other years, but at the same time, some of the books I read in 2020 have stuck with me more than books I’ve read in other years. So… without further ado, here is my list of favorite books for the year:

Tempting Tait by Chautona Havig. Tempting Tait (Marriages of Conviction Book 2)
If you follow me on social media, especially in reader groups on Facebook, you’ll have heard me recommend this book. Over and over again. Not just because of the cover (yes, Josh did the cover art), but because of the story itself. The message of the book, the main character’s convictions about life and abortion really touched me in ways I wasn’t expecting. I laughed, I cried, and I was driven to reassess my own convictions on what life means (to me). Would I do what the characters in this book did? Probably not. Does that mean what they did is wrong and I am right? Not necessarily. What is right is doing what I know the Lord would have me do. And this book helped me to really sit down and think about what this whole topic means to me, and how/what I should do/not do about it. Clear as mud? Totally–because… mud. 😉 But, it convicted me in ways I wasn’t expecting and this is my number one book for 2020.

Brought to Book (Wilkester Mysteries)Brought to Book and Snuffed Out by Barbara CornthwaiteSnuffed Out (Wilkester Mysteries)

Okay, so I know two books isn’t one, but when it comes to books in a series I’m going to list them as one because I’ll always binge read a series if I can. And sometimes the whole series is so good no one book can be singled out, or should be singled out because they all fit so nicely together that to take one out would be to remove part of the story–at least in my mind.

Anyway, what I loved most about these books is the writing. Ms. Cornthwaite is a master at captivating her audience with words. The bookish references in Brought to Book and the masterful use of the English language in both left me wanting more. I can’t wait for the third book in the series to come out. (Also, Josh did the covers for this entire series.)

The Montana Marshalls

Another series that is high up on my list of favorite books is the Montana Marshalls series by Susan May Warren. I think my favorite book in this series is Ruby Jane, but I can’t be certain about that because… Knox, Tait, Ford… they’re all SO good I would recommend them to anyone who likes to read and wants to become addicted to an author.

Next on the list is Joanna Davidson Politano’s Lady Jayne DisappearsLady Jayne DisappearsI’ve loved all of her books that I’ve read yet, but I think this was my favorite. I love the mixture of romance and mystery, and her writing style kept me captivated from the first chapter to the last.

A Haunting at Havenwood (Seasons of Change Book 6)Another favorite author is Sally Britton, and my favorite book of hers that I’ve read this year is A Haunting at HavenwoodNo particular reason other than the fact I enjoyed the book so much I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a slightly gothic, slightly spooky historical romance.

Please note, there are “ghosts” in the story, so if that would offend you then this might not be the book for you. I wasn’t bothered by it, but it’s a made up story about made up people and if we can pretend people can time travel, then we can pretend they can see ghosts. (That is my opinion though, and I won’t be offended if you feel otherwise.)

Another favorite for this year is Jen Turano’s To Steal a Heart. To Steal a Heart (The Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency Book #1) I laughed so much while I was reading this book. It was fun and hilarious, and just plain enjoyable. But, I’ve loved all of Jen Turano’s books that I’ve read yet so it was no surprise that this one made my list. This is also telling because it’s the only Jen Turano book I read in 2020, which means I didn’t read enough books last year. Or, enough of the right kind of books–the kind that make my favorites list.

Letters From The Enemy (Truly Yours Digital Editions Book 576)Last of all, an honorable mention goes to Susan May Warren’s Letters from the Enemy. Obviously, I really enjoyed this story (it made the list, after all), but I can’t say just why it had an impact on me. Was it the story itself? The truth of the discrimination people of certain heritages faced during WWII? The sweet romance that kept me turning the pages? I’m not sure just what it was that made this book memorable, but I really enjoyed the story enough to add it to my list.

Of course, I read a lot more books than this over the past year, but these are the books that left the biggest impression. (And no, these aren’t affiliate links.)

  1. Loved the Montana marshalls and the follow up series. You have many I have never read. Have you read Cynthia Ruchti?

No, I haven’t read any of her books. I’m hoping to expand my reading horizons a little more this year and will add her to my list of authors to check out. 😊

  2. Aw, thanks for including Tait. And I TOTALLY agree with many of your others and will add the ones I didn’t read to my “must do now” list.
